This week we are learning about caterpillars and butterflies. To go along with our theme and help Aiden work on the numbers 0 – 10, I made a Butterfly Number Matching File Folder Game.
The download includes butterflies with spots ~ count the number of spots and match the butterfly to the correct flower
and butterflies with spots and numbers ~ match the number on the butterfly to the number on the flower.
Click on any of the above images to download.
Here is how we played:
I hung the butterflies from the ceiling,
gave Aiden a butterfly net, and let him catch them. As he pulled them out of the net, he told me the color of the butterfly (all of the butterflies are different colors so we could work on colors too!) and he counted the spots and said the number.
I had to keep hanging the butterflies up so he could do it again and again! Later in the week I will help him match the butterflies to the numbers on the flowers.

I love your idea of having Aiden catch the butterflies in a net - brilliant. What a fun way to work on numbers. Thank you so much for sharing this fantastic resource. I am printing it off right now and think that my daughter will love this. It's lovely to think that something you made in your home, will be enjoyed in our home here in Australia. Thank you once again for sharing this activity.
It's me again! I meant to leave you a link to a butterfly matching activity that I saw on Mama Jenn's blog. If you are interested the link is:

Great game! I love that you had him first run around a "catch" the butterflies. Thanks for the inspiration!
As always, you did great! :) Love it!!
Too cute! I can't wait to try it with my little ones!
Aren't you creative! I love it, especially incorporating the butterfly net. I just saw some at the Dollar Store! I think I will need to go back and get it now!
Hey, I just printed this out and tried it with my little guy! He loved it--thanks so much!
